Pain Medicines

        Pain Medicines

Pain medicines, or analgesics, come in various forms, including over-the-counter options like paracetamol and NSAIDs, and prescription medications like opioids and antidepressants, each with varying strengths and potential side effects.

  Types of Pain Medicines

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs):

Examples include ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), and aspirin, which reduce pain and inflammation.

Paracetamol (Acetaminophen):

Effective for mild to moderate pain and fever, available as brands like Tylenol.

   Prescription Medications

Anticonvulsants and Antidepressants:

Some medications originally used for epilepsy or depression, like gabapentin and amitriptyline, can also help with nerve pain.

Opioids:

Strong pain relievers like codeine, morphine, and oxycodone, typically used for severe pain, but with potential risks of addiction and side effects.

Other Medications:

Muscle relaxants, corticosteroids, and other medications may be used to treat specific pain causes.

Pain management is an aspect of medicine and health care involving relief of pain in various dimensions, from acute and simple to chronic and challenging.

Paracetamol is often recommended as the first medicine to try, if you have short-term pain.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) is a group of medicines that work by reducing swelling and inflammation, and relieving pain.

These include aspirin, ibuprofen and diclofenac.
